Study: 24 pct of Californians Lack Health Insurance
According to a study from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, 8.2 million Californians lacked health insurance for part or all of 2009, a jump from 6.4 million in 2007. The 8.2 million number makes up 24% of all Californians under age 65.

According to a study from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, 8.2 million Californians lacked health insurance for part or all of 2009, a jump from 6.4 million in 2007. The 8.2 million number makes up 24% of all Californians under age 65.
The study says the increase is most likely due to increased unemployment and the loss of health benefits that go with it. The unemployment rate in California was 12.3% in December 2009.
For those between the ages of 18 and 65, the study says 1 in 3 have gone without health coverage.
