Kirkwood Care Wins Plaudits In Report From Care Quality Commission

The new man on the block among Guildford home care providers has been given a clean bill of health by the government's Care Quality Commission after an in-depth analysis of the company's standards of customer care.

SURREY, ENGLAND, October 01, 2011 /Healthcare PR News/ -- The new man on the block among Guildford home care providers has been given a clean bill of health by the government's Care Quality Commission after an in-depth analysis of the company's standards of customer care.

After just one year in operation, Kirkwood Care of Guildford received glowing reports for its dedication to the highest standards of client satisfaction, staff training and performance, and customer safety.
Kirkwood Care CEO Reece Howe says he and manager Jane Francis, who has 15 years' experience in residential care, have "grown the company with a view to ensuring the highest standards of bespoke customer care.

"Standards trump growth," says Howe. "We looked forward to the Care Quality Commission's report as both a yardstick of our performance and as confirmation that Kirkwood Care is achieving the commission's high standards."

Kirkwood Care is a labour of love for Howe. "My grandmother received very poor treatment at the end of her life in expensive care homes, so I decided to work towards improving the quality of life for elderly and disabled people in their own homes.

"It is gratifying to have such a vote of confidence so soon, and to have an independent voice saying what a great job our staff members are doing for our customers."

The report focused, among other areas, on respecting and involving customers, as well as ensuring they receive high quality care. The report said that customers "were happy with the care and support they received from the staff" and that "staff were kind and listened to what customers wanted and worked with them to achieve it."

Particularly gratifying to Howe is the report's finding that "staff worked very hard to build good, honest reliable relationships" and that they "received support and training that assisted them in understanding and meeting the needs of the people who used the service."

"The key to Kirkwood Care's success," Howe says, "is that we focus on three things that really improve quality of life: Communication, Activity and Nutrition.

"We encourage quality communication, through conversation and reminiscence. We encourage activities, going for walks, and chair aerobics, and we train our carers to monitor our customers' diets."
